Swine Flu H1N1 Systems From OWR - Germany

Dear Friends,

The equipment I mentioned in this presentation is not for swine flu only. It is generally for pandemic control, also for more serious diseases like SARS, Marburg, etc. as well. I think it makes more sense to buy pandemic control equipment which can be used against swine flu also.

The PUI is an isolation tent with an Air Lock and Disinfection Shower. Inside the main room of the tent is a HEPA filter system to get an under-pressure in the tent. No pathogen can go out of the tent. So it is to protect the people outside.

We recommend two interesting purposes:

1. To isolate POTENTUALLY infected people in small groups to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus. Up to 8-10 people can stay in one tent for several hours. The tent can be set up e.g. at airports or in the entrance area of hospitals. If there are any indications of flu (temperature, sickness) the people can be send to the tent.

The people are entering the main room through the air look. In this stage taking a shower is not necessary. In the air-lock they can disinfect there hands and faces, put on a fresh paper mask and go in the main room. In the “shower room” a chemical toilet can be set up as well.

In the main room there are two beds and some chairs and tables. The people can wait in this safe environment for further examinations.

Then a doctor or paramedic can go in the tent, proceed an examination or take a saliva sample to analyse it in a medical lab. If no flu symptoms can be detected, the people can leave the tent. If flu symptoms come up, only the small group in the tent must be treated.

Similar procedure can be set up in hospitals to reduce the patient-to-patient contact significantly.

2. Secondly to isolate INFECTED patients in the hospital for treatment to avoid spreading the virus by the hospital staff or air conditioning system. The tent is completely capsulated and secured by the Air Lock, the main room has negative pressure by HEPA filters.

In the main room is one bed only. Most supervising work can be done from outside through the transparent tent. If the staff must enter the room, they put on fresh or additional protection equipment infront of the tent. They enter and proceed the treatment of the patient.

Leaving the main room, the staff can proceed a disinfection procedure depending on the pathogen. That can be a disinfection of hands and changing the paper mask; in case of very serious pathogens they can take an disinfection shower as well before leaving the air lock. The shower water will contain a chemical disinfection agent to kill any virus or bacteria.

Disinfection of person means to minimize the virus “on the surface” of a person e.g. if other person has defluxion out of the nose or was sneezing several times in his hands or paper mask, the virus will be smeared over his face and hands, sometimes cloths as well. Perhaps the person has throw up something over the cloths. This kind of body fluids are responsible for the transmission of the virus.

Disinfection means to reduce this contamination of the person by removing contaminated cloths, washing and disinfecting the skin with proper disinfection agent and giving him a fresh paper mask and cloths. The life time of the pathogen outside the body depends on the pathogen but this actions are to avoid spreading of viruses significantly.

The OWR disinfection equipment and agents are against most kind of pathogens (virus, bacteria, spores) e.g. flu, SARS, Marburg as well as biological warfare agents. The disinfection agents are based on guanidinium derivates or alcohols or peracetic acid, depending on the pathogen and task. The agents can be used on the human skin, to disinfect surfaces like ambulance cars or hospital rooms by spraying or fogging devices. Especially against swine flu we recommend the BFOG system to fog ambulance vehicles or rooms for disinfection as well as the isolation tents

To check and confirm whether the person is having swine flu virus in him are two steps. The first check can be done by a quick test where a saliva sample is necessary. In case this test is positive, a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test in a medical laboratory is necessary to confirm the virus type. If OWR is allowed to supply the quick tests I must check because in that case it is a medical diagnostic equipment. I think there a special regulations selling this equipment.

What SPECIFIC systems/products OWR can deliver against SWINE FLU:

-Generally all kind of personal protection equipment especially composed for swine flu (can be used against other flu, bird flu, SARS etc. as well) like single-use or multiple-use protection clothings and masks, gloves, boots.

- PIU – patient isolation units and patient isolation transport systems to isolate potentially infected people or treat infected people in a safe environment (negative pressure tents and transport bags). The air frame of the PIU can be used for shower tents, decontamination tents or multi-purpose tents as well.

-EDG EmergencyDeconGate – a disinfection system which forces any person entering a hospital or special part of a hospital to proceed a disinfection gate to avoid spreading of pathogens in hospitals. The procedure can be modified depending on the pathogene. The EDG consists of tents, water heating and shower devices, disinfection sprayers and biohazard waste disposal systems.

BFOG – - Biological Disinfection Fogging System – to disinfect inner surfaces of ambulance vehicles, hospital rooms, isolation units, large equipment. The BFOG can be used in operating rooms as well without removing the equipment. The fog will go in every small gap and kill the pathogen.

- DECOFOG – independent fogging device – for fast disinfection without electrical power supply. Several disinfection agents can be used.

- RDS – vehicle spraying and rinsing system – to disinfect the outer surface of vehicles to reduce the spreading of pathogen. In case of swine flu this is not absolutely necessary. The German civil defence forces used this system in cases of animal diseases several times but against bird flu as well.

CHEMBIO – hot air disinfection container – a system based on a 20 feet container which could be heated up to 130°C (optinal 170°C) under isolated conditions (filter system). Contaminated cloths and equipment can be disinfected by hot air. Biohazard waste can be decontaminated for a safe disposal.

Turn-key solutions like our “NBC Airport Package” we designed for the airport in Warsaw (Poland) also to handle infected passengers in a plane. Everything is ready to use packed in the container from protection equipment, transportation and isolation equipment up to disinfection devices.

PANDEMIC FIRST RESPONSE

Protection from Pathogen - Reduction of Risk

OWR supports both military and civilian institutions such as the fire & rescue service (FRS), hospitals and police in establishing effective protection against biological threats. OWR has created First Response Packages to protect and disinfect people from infectious pathogen like SARS, flu and Biological Warfare Agents.

“Bird or swine flu”, SARS or Marburg (MHF) are serious viral diseases. Transmitted by airborne infection or direct contact with casualties, the illness can spread to a dozen countries in a few weeks worldwide. A fast and forceful response is recommended to get the pandemic under control as fast as possible.

Several countries are using thermo imaging to check passengers at the airport. An increased body temperature can indicate a viral infection, but how to proceed if the thermo image becomes red? Potentially infected passengers can be isolated immediately in under-pressurized self-inflatable tents for further examination. The tents are cost-effective, fast to install and easy to operate. A disinfection shower is integrated.

An important task is also to minimize the contamination in hospitals, reducing the time patients are interacting will reduce the possibility of spreading the virus as well.

The following actions can be recommended depending on the pathogen...

The following actions can be recommended:

  • Patient disinfection before entering the hospital (EmergencyDeconGate)
  • First medical examination of a large number of patients in self-inflatable tents to avoid long waiting times and patient-to-patient contact.
  • Use of Casualty Transportation Bags in ambulance vehicles and hospitals
  • Protection equipment for FRS and hospital personal (masks, suits, gloves, boots)
  • Patient isolation units (PIU) to treat infected patients in a safe environment
  • Fast and reliable disinfection of ambulance vehicles, examination rooms and equipment using disinfection agents with spraying or fogging devices
  • Disinfection of vehicles can reduce the spreading of infections as well. The OWR RDS system in a spraying device to disinfect and rinse vehicles from surface contamination. The OWR BFOG system is especially designed to disinfect ambulance vehicles' interior and equipment.

OWR offers First Response Packages and Special Pandemic Control Equipment:
